Tiamaria Niualuga from Poutasi Falealili, Sinamoga, Saoluafata and Papa Sataua took home the Dux trophy for St. Mary’s Primary School this year.
The top student was congratulated by her peers, parents and teachers on Thursday during the school’s end of year prize giving ceremony.
The top student is the youngest of the seven children of Lesaisaea Toilolo Niualuga and Saina Tuatagaloa Niualuga.
She was humbled by her achievements.
“At the beginning of my journey this year my aim was simply just to go out there and work to the best of my abilities,” she said during her speech.
“I didn’t know what it might amount to but I did not expect myself to be up here giving this speech.
I would like to thank many people who have helped me throughout this year. If it was not for them I wouldn’t be up here at this very moment.
“So first off, I would like to thank my family, to all my Aunties and uncles Aunty Maria, Aunty Ofeira, Aunty Pasami, Uncle Finau, Uncle Willie, Uncle Mose thank you all for looking out for me and providing me with what I needed.
“Thank you also to my sisters and brothers, Ataata, Imari, Gogo, Hemara, Fetu, Aileen, Binna, Jasmine, Ethan, Heaven, Baby Nevaeh. To all of you, thank you for pushing me to do my school work and for always being there to wipe away my tears and to put a smile on my face.
“Most especially, I would like to thank my grandma who couldn’t be here today but I hope I have made you proud.
“Also, my faafetai to Rev. Letone and Carol and Rev. Maposene and Tiafau, thank you for remembering me in your prayers.
“To my amazing parents, to the man and woman behind my success Queen Saina and King Niualuga, Mom and Dada from the bottom of my heart, I thank you both for moulding me into the girl I am now.
“To the Principal, Sister Masela Tenisio and to every teacher at St Marys and to those that have taught me over the years, I thank you for creating such an atmosphere that allows us not only to thrive and succeed in our education but also enjoy our school life at the same time.
“To learn from teachers that genuinely enjoy passing on their knowledge, that genuinely care about the students was a privilege that I will be ever thankful for.”
Tiamaria’s mother was one proud woman that day.
“For this, all the glory and praise shall be unto God for making all the things possible for not only Tiamaria but for all the girls of St Mary’s,” she said.
St. Mary’s School has two classes in each of the levels from Year 1 to Year 8.
