Constable Ma’anaima Patu’s fine is over leaking “confidential” information to the media. Confirmed by Acting Police Commissioner, Fauono Talalelei Tapu, it follows a hearing before the Police Tribunal yesterday at the Police Headquarters.
The report, according to Fauono, was “confidential”. It detailed the Police allegations against the senior politicians, who have since been charged.
Their hearing is pending. Yesterday, Fauono said he was satisfied with the handling of the matter.
“This morning was Constable Ma’anaima’s hearing and he pleaded guilty to passing information to the media,” said Fauono.
The Acting Commissioner said Constable Patu “has been in the service for nearly ten years and this is the first time he has breached a disciplinary act.”
Part of Constable Patu’s sentence was “a severe warning” from the Acting Police Commissioner.
“I warned him that if anything like this comes up again in the future then there will be a different punishment”, said Fauono.
“The constable’s fine will be deducted from his salary every fortnight.
The deduction is $5 every fortnight”, Fauono said.
