Hard work pays off. That’s the key to success for the Dux of Robert Louis Stevenson Senior School for 2014.
Vinnie Lei Sam, who hails from Ululoloa, is the 4th child of Foma’i and Leata Lam Sam. Her first placing in Mathematics, Biology, Physics helped her secure the school’s most coveted academic award.
But that wasn’t all. The young student who wants to become a Cardiologist also scooped the Helen Lei Sam Top Science Award for Form 6 Level, the Rotary Club Of Samoa Academic Excellence Award, the Samoa International Finance Authority Award (S.I.F.A) and the Westpac Bank Award.
“I have always set my mind on that saying, ‘Hard work pays off’” she told the Samoa Observer. “[And] that’s what kept me going together with the help of the Holy Spirit.
There were times that I felt like giving up but thank God that my parents and siblings were always there to support me and encouraged me to keep on going.” Her proud mother, Leata, was extremely grateful.
“I couldn’t ask for anything better this Christmas because God has given me more than I could ever ask for through my children,” she said. “[And] for this I give all the glory and honour to the Lord for blessing my children with such knowledge and wisdom.”
Mrs. Lei Sam said her gift to her daughter - and their other children - is a trip to Brisbane Australia to attend another one of her daughter, Helen’s graduation from the University of Queensland.
Robert Louis Stevenson’s Prize giving was held on Wednesday. The Samoa Observer prizes for Excellence in Writing went to Anamaria Singh and the second award for excellence in public speaking went to Octave Sio.
Second place in Year 13 level went to Mercedes Fabricius who was also the top Accounting student. The third place went to Penelope Johnston. The top Art Student was Vaega Toelupe. The school ended the year with a glamourous ball last night.
