More than seventy students from the University of the South Pacific (U.S.P) will be honoured at the University’s Samoa graduation ceremony at the E.F.K.S Hall, Sogi, today.
The 21st Chancellor, Governor General of Tuvalu, Sir Iakoba Taeia, will confer certificates, diplomas and degrees while the Pro-Chancellor and Chair of Council, Ikbal Janiff will be officiating at the ceremony.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Rajesh Chandra will deliver the university graduation address.
This year highlights three Master of Education students completing their programmes all through distance from the Alafua Campus; further emphasizing the University’s drive for flexibility in its learning and teaching.
While two students will be graduating with the Master of Environmental Law degree; the first ever Samoan will also be awarded with a Post Graduate Certificate in Gender Studies; one of the University’s new programmes. Seventeen students will graduate with a Graduate Certificate in Public Sector Management under the Pacific Islands Centre for Public Administration (P.I.C.P.A) programme.
P.I.C.P.A is housed within the University of the South Pacific and funded by Australian Aid.
The Minister of Health, Tuitama Dr. Talalelei Tuitama, representing the Samoa Medical Council will give the Hippocratic Oath to two newly graduated MBBS students from the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.
