Professor Dr. Satupa’itea Viali has been voted Samoa Observer’s Person of the Year for 2014.
Professor Viali’s exceptional life of service to Samoa in the medical field over the years has earned him the honour ahead of 17 other outstanding individuals identified in this edition of your newspaper as our People of the Year for 2014.
In short, Professor Viali is not just one of the most gifted medical minds in the region and the world.
His life of service to Samoa is unquestionable, with most of it being on a voluntary basis where he helps many people who otherwise are not able to afford his expertise.
The son of Dr. Lei’ata’atimu and Luao Viali, of Saleimoa, Avao, Fogapoa, Iva and Fagali’i, Professor Viali is married to Sialei Okesene Viali.
They have two children, Eliana and Zenith.

There are many other outstanding individuals who are not on this list. The truth is that it is impossible to have everybody included.
But these are just some of the people who have made an awesome difference to this country in their areas of expertise. A good number of them have been chosen for their bravery to speak out amidst a climate of fear that silently exists, preventing progress, new beginnings and growth. We also pay tribute to some of our fallen heroes who have gone home to be with their Maker.
To all of them who have been chosen for this edition, we say well done and thank you for all that you do for Samoa.
