The honour of being the first babies for 2015 went to two boys.
Elijah and Enoch were the proud sons of mother, Carol Peniamina, who gave birth to the twins at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital at 12.42am on Thurday 1 January 2015.
“It was exciting knowing that my twins were the first babies for the New Year,” Carol told the Sunday Samoan yesterday.
The 34-year-old mother who lives in Si’usega said the ordeal was “painful” but she was well supported by her relatives.
“It’s an amazing feeling,” she said. “I have nine children, two girls and seven boys including Elijah and Enoch.
“I’ve promised myself that they are my last. I’m so pleased that my family and everyone are so excited.”
Nurse Manager at Maternity Ward, Finau Amiga confirmed that the twins were among eight babies born on New Year’s day at the Hospital.
“The male twins were born on 12:42 am,” she said. “The first one weighed 5.9ounce while the second one was 6.5ounce.”
The last of the eight babies was born at 11pm that day.
