Along with a loveable pot-belly pig and a legendary hero, Moana searches for a mythical island, traversing the open ocean and encountering mystical sea creatures and underworlds on an action packed quest to save her world and make her ancestors proud.

Directed by the renowned filmmaking team of Ron Clements and John Musker (‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘The Princess and the Frog’, ‘Aladdin’) and produced by Osnat Shurer, this CG-animated adventure sets sail in late 2016.

Casting team, Fiona Collins and Naea Asolelei To’alepai will be holding auditions in Upolu and Savai’i.

“We’re looking for a young woman between the ages of 14 and 20, with a really strong singing voice and some acting skills too,” said Fiona.

“So if you know someone who has these talents, have them ready for that day (auditions). It will be a great opportunity, and they don’t necessarily have to have a lot of experience” said Naea.

‘We’ll do a casting session in Savai’i and one in Upolu over the next few weeks and the dates and times will be published in the classified section of this week’s Sunday Samoan,” said Fiona.

“An important thing for now, is to get a song ready. So if it’s a Disney song that’s fine, but show tunes are good or any songs from musicals such as ‘The Sound of Music’.

“There’s also a link - Behind the scenes Making of ‘Tangled’ – LINK to Tangled behind the scenes, where you can see the making of that animation film and watch how the woman who is older than a teenager, brings the script to light because it’s not just normal film acting, it’s heightened work,” said Fiona.

The best advice, according to the agent, is to choose a song that shows off your voice rather than something that is popular. A song that shows your entire vocal range - the highest and lowest notes that you are comfortable with, and aiming for beautifully controlled singing rather than volume is what the casting agents will be looking for. Show tunes are really best, and steering clear of Disney songs unless you are really great at them, is also recommended.

You should also avoid songs that suit groups but remember to have fun.

“The most important thing for now, is come and give it a shot, seriously, you’ve got nothing to lose …” said Fiona, “Because you never know,” added Naea.
