Fasito’o-Tai Primary School celebrated the official opening of its reconstructed school building on Saturday.
The project was funded by the Government of Japan with a grant of up to US$121, 308 (T$279,000).
The funding paid for the reconstruction of eight new classrooms, a staff room, a library and a school hall. It was provided under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects.
Ambassador of Japan to Samoa, Tuimaugaoali’i Kazumasa Shibuta said Japan would continue to prioritize educational developments in Samoa.
Japan aligns its funding with needs identified in the Strategy for the Development of Samoa 2012-2016.
Education is listed as a top priority in the SDS.
“It is my hope that this new school building will educate a future generation of bright minds who will become the leaders of tomorrow,” he said.
Ambassador Tuimaugaoali’i also thanked the Fasito’o-Tai Primary School committee for their vision and determination to complete the project.
Japan’s “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects” provides assistance to nongovernment organizations, primary schools, hospitals and other non-profit associations that have a direct impact on the well-being of communities.
Japan has been working in partnership with the Samoan Government since 1991 to further develop such grassroots and human security projects.
