Members of the public were invited to catch a glimpse of their performance last Saturday at Samoa Cultural Village Fale (S.T.A Fale).

Tour Manager of Le Taupou Manaia, Laeimau Oketevi Tanivasa Saena believed that ‘it was an awesome opportunity for these young Taupou to represents Samoa in New Zealand.’

“A taupou performing a traditional Samoan dance is very important and not only that, but it will open doors for them to perform overseas in countries like New Zealand.

“We have sixteen young girls from the age of 4 to 16 in the Taupou Manaia and we are all looking forward to the Pasefika Festival.”

The father of the youngest taupou, Michael Rasmussen said that he was very happy for the the Taupou Manaia to showcase their talents in New Zealand.

“I have two daughters in the dancing group, and one of them iss the youngest of all the girls,” said Mr. Rasmussen “I am so thankful for the opportunity given to them so that they can continue their love of Samoan dance in the future especially in cultural exchanges.

“The other plus is for them to build up confidence while getting along with other girls.”

Archdeacon, Venerable Taimalelalgi Fagamalama Tuatagaloa led the programme in prayers.

Le Taupou Manaia was established in 1999 with its mission to promote, perpetuate, and preserve Samoa’s traditional dance, music and arts. Its main focus is the siva fa’a-taupou or Samoa’s Princess Dance, which sets us apart from the rest of the islands.

The Le Taupou Manaia Academy started from American Samoa with its sister groups in Apia, Samoa and Orange Country, California. It is the brainchild of Afioga Tuifaasusuna Korina Seiuli Lee of Vailima, Samoa.

They have taught thousands of young ladies of Samoa since it was first established.

Le Taupou Manaia through the support of keen parents has made it possible for the Academy to attend the Pasifika Festival in Auckland this year.
