Hurricanes hooker, Motu Matu’u, has realised his boyhood dream. It happened when he flew in from New Zealand to join the Manu Samoa for the Pacific Nations Cup.

“I’ve always had a dream to come back to Samoa and serve the country through the Manu Samoa,” he told the Sunday Samoan yesterday.
At 184 centimeter tall and 108 kg, Matu’u plays as a hooker for the Hurricanes in Super Rugby and Wellington Lions in the ITM Cup.
“I have seen many Samoans play for New Zealand but that’s not me, I always wanted to come and play for Manu Samoa.”
“My brothers, Jack Lam and Faifili kept asking and pushing me to come and play for Samoa and I knew this was my calling.
They (Jack and Fa’afili) played the biggest part for me in making up my mind.”
Matu’u is likely to make his debut for Samoa in their first PNC test.
“I am looking forward to the game,” he said. “This is not only for myself but for my family as well – this is what they have been praying for.”
After watching the game between the All Blacks and Manu Samoa last Wednesday?
“I felt a sense of pride to be a Samoan. The passion they showed was amazing and I felt lot better after the game. It is a privilege to be part of this team.”
Matu’u’s parents are from Fasito’o-uta and Manono.
