Tasi is travelling to England with the Manu Samoa for the Rugby World Cup and will have a very special job.

She has been selected from hundreds of students as the local winner of the Land Rover Rugby World Cup 2015 Mascot Recruitment Contest.

To be in with a chance of winning a Rugby World Cup 2015 mascot place at grassroots festivals, entrants (aged between 7 and 13 years old) had to participate in a short audition, undertaking one of three challenges to show why they would make a great mascot.

These challenges include giving a passionate rendition of a Rugby World Cup team’s national anthem or offering some words of inspiration and advice to one of the nation’s captains.

Tasi is thrilled about the opportunity to travel to England. She will run out with the Manu Samoa at Villa Park in Birmingham, United Kingdom when they take on South Africa.

“I am very surprised,” she said. “I’m shocked and I am very happy.

“This will be my first time on the plane and I am looking forward to go now. I want to take my mother with me.”

And she can. The Challenge allows her to be accompanied by a parent. Principal of Ah Mu Academy, Debbie Tiatia, was delighted for Tasi. “Well this is a good news to the parents, teachers and all the students in our school,” she said.

“I think all the schools had the opportunity and it’s so awesome that one of our students from Ah Mu Academy was chosen.

“It will be a great opportunity for he.”

Land Rover, a worldwide Partner of Rugby World Cup 2015 has been recruiting 96 Mascots from all over the world. Former England captain, Lewis Moody, has been promoting the contest.

"It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for youngsters to be at the very heart of the biggest occasion in the rugby calendar," he said.

“Having played on that stage, there is no greater honour than walking out for your country during a Rugby World Cup, so for the lucky mascots who are selected it will be a truly memorable experience.

“Land Rover has a long history in grassroots rugby as well as at the top level of the sport, so it’s a natural fit that they will be getting to the roots of rugby to find these lucky Rugby World Cup mascots.”
