Presented by the Minister of Works, Transport and Infrastructure, Manu’alesagalala Enokati Posala, and S.S.C’s Board of Directors, the dividend represents 50per cent of the Corporation’s Net Profits After Taxation for the Financial Year ended 30 June 2014.
“As obligated by law, the Corporation is happy to do its part,” Manualesagalala said.
“And the Corporation remains committed to maintaining the best affordable shipping services to our people and our Pacific neighbors.”
Manualesagalala and the Board of Directors acknowledged the Prime Minister’s leading role in initiating the recent Parliament approved law for the Corporation to take over the management of the international ports at Matautu, Mulifanua and Salelologa as well as the Satitoa Aleipata Slip Way.
“While the change over comes with additional responsibilities, it also poses a potential boost in the Corporation’s revenue making capacity, which could reflect in more funds for the government coffers to finance development projects for our people and its other budget obligations,” added Manu’alesagalala.
“But most important to the Board and the Corporation is fulfilling its portfolio to meet the shipping needs of our country.”
In accepting the dividend, Prime Minister Tuilaepa thanked the Minister, Board members and the Corporation for the assistance.
“Government is more than apprecia t ive and I urge the Corporation to continue with its impeccable services,” said the Prime Minister.
“Shipping is one of the crucial services needed not only domestically by our people but to boost trade links with our neighbors especially American Samoa which is the gateway to the lucrative U.S markets.”
