Last week, pellets from a bullet lodged on the left side of her chest when an angry neighbour attempted to shoot her husband.

That man is a 49-yearold male from Nofoali’i and Salelologa Savai’i who has since been arrested and held in custody. He is facing charges of attempted murder, being armed with a dangerous weapon and engaging a firearm.

“I was shocked and am still terrified about the accident,” she told the Sunday Samoan yesterday.

“I thank God that I am still alive.”

On the night of the incident, Mrs. Levi said she was sitting on their bed watching TV when her husband, Timu Levi, heard their dog bark. He got the torch, went outside and did not see anyone.

Mrs. Levi said her husband came back into the house and he was standing not far from their bedside when they heard a loud bang. They did not know what it was.

“I was shocked when my wife said she was hurt,” said Timu. “And that’s where I knew what the loud sound was. It was a gun shot.”

Timu said he dragged his wife to the road to look for help. When he shone the torch towards the direction where the noise came from, he spotted the alleged shooter. He had a 12-gauge rifle.

Levi said their neighbours took his wife to the hospital.

“I am very thankful to God that she is still alive,” Timu said.

Asked if he knew why the man shot at them, Timu said he suspects it has something to do with a stop order he had taken out on a building project.

“It was me he was aiming to kill but unfortunately he missed and injured my wife,” said Levi.

“I forgive him for what he had done to me and my wife. The matter is now before the Court."

“What he did is very hard for me swallow but he will be dealt with by the judiciary.”

As for Mrs. Levi, she was discharged last Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Levi live by themselves at Nofoali’i while their four children are residing in Australia and New Zealand.

The Spokesperson for the Ministry of Police, Su’a Muliaga Tiumalu, said the defendant remains in custody.

He is scheduled to appear before Court on 31 August 2015.
