As the All Blacks arrived back in New Zealand yesterday, to much fanfare, the New Zealand High Commission in Apia celebrated the men in black’s success.

“Staff were wanting to celebrate but also we were looking for an opportunity to thank Samoa for its support [of the team],” the New Zealand High Commissioner to Samoa, Jackie Frizelle, said.

The All Blacks have seven Samoan players on the team, so they were “shared heroes” between the two countries, she said.

The High Commissioner is among those still celebrating an edge-of-the-seat Rugby World Cup finale.

“It was a really good game...we always know to take the Wallabies seriously.”

She confessed to getting quite nervous late in the game, but said she “had a really huge sense of relief” when Dan Carter scored a drop goal near the end of the match.

The New Zealand High Commissioner to Samoa made the match extra interesting, by making a bet against the Australian High Commissioner to Samoa, Sue Langford.

The pair agreed the losing country’s High Commissioner would shout the other one lunch.

“We’re meeting up Friday,” Jackie said.

She had chosen Scalini’s Restaurant as their lunch destination.

Other staff at the New Zealand High Commission got into the celebrations as well.

High Commission Team Administrator and rugby fanatic, Rivoe Ulberg, made a giant banner celebrating the All Blacks (pictured above).

He said it was great to show Samoa’s appreciation for the team, especially after a less than satisfactory performance from the Manu Samoa in this year’s Rugby World Cup.

“I cheered for Manu Samoa and then I cheered for the All Blacks,” he laughed.

High Commission Programme Coordinator LaToya Lee said she had loved watching the historic R.W.C. 2015 final.

“It was an epic final for a team that almost all of Samoa supports,” she said.

Deputy New Zealand High Commissioner of New Zealand to Samoa, Mike Wehi Mailetonga Walsh said the All Blacks had a plan going into the world cup, and it had worked perfectly.

He was happy to see players like Richie McCaw finish their careers on a high note, and was just as happy to show how much support the All Blacks had in Samoa.
