A radiothon aiming to raise $800,000 to complete payments for a CT Scan Machine on 31 October was cancelled by the Minister of Health.

Tuitama Dr. Talalelei Tuitama said he cancelled the event because the organisers did not follow the process.
He confirmed the funding is now back with the Accident Compensation Corporation(A.C.C).
Questions over why the radiothon was cancelled, sent to National Health Services General Manager, Leota Laki Sio on 4 November, remain unanswered.
However, last month letters signed by Leota were distributed to local businesses, seeking donations.
Dated 9 October, 2015, the letter reads as follows:
“The [N.H.S.] recently acquired a new CT Scan Machine for its Medical Imaging (X-Ray) Services.
The availability of this machine has significantly lifted the standard of X-ray services in Samoa, let alone the valuable support given to the medical services. In addition it will also generate other benefits for N.H.S. in health and for Samoa in the socio-economic area.”
The full cost of this machine is about $2.3 million which was funded as follows:
Soft term loan from A.C.C:
$1.2 million
Donation by A.C.C:
$0.3 milliom
Shortfall:
$0.8 million
Asked why government and other donor organisations were not footing the bill, Leota said the radiothon was an initiative to seek support and to partner with the public and community, over the important machine.
