Speaking ahead of the conference, Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority C.E.O, Jitoko Tikolevu, says sharing information among Pacific countries has become vital as criminal syndicates get more sophisticated.

“While O.C.O. heads meeting is held annually, we have continuous missions and information sharing between members,” he said.

“This is important as we try and combat transnational countries and the challenges at our various borders.

“We will need to continue to work together as a region to ensure that our borders are secure and safe from criminals.”

Mr. Tikolevu said Fiji last hosted the meeting in 2006 while the O.C.O. secretariat was based at Walu Bay. He said the theme of this year’s meet was “Communication: Sharing Information for Better Co-operation”.

“We are expecting to have a good meeting and discuss issues that are common to our administrations.”
