The Samoa Rugby Union (S.R.U.) has declined to comment on the much anticipated, albeit proposed, match between the All Blacks and the Manu Samoa.
When approached yesterday at his office, S.R.U. C.E.O. Fred Amoa declined to make any comment.
“I cannot give you an official comment – it’s not yet official,” he said.
The Sunday Samoan published on its front page an article titled ‘Praise the Lord’ All Blacks coming, following confirmation from Chief
Executive Officer of the New Zealand Rugby Union (N.Z.R.U.), Steve Tew in an email.
However, Amoa said it was only Monday (yesterday) and the S.R.U. had yet to work towards the accuracy of that comment made by Mr. Tew.
He said to give the S.R.U. time to get an official comment together regarding the confirmation of the All Blacks visiting before.
“We will have the time to sit down and speak about it,” said Amoa.
The All Blacks are expected to arrive in Samoa in July 2015 and there is a possibility, according to Mr. Tew, for the long-awaited test match between them and Samoa’s national team, the Manu Samoa.
He added that they could not confirm the time and date of the test match.
Mr. Tew also said there have been positive conversations between the I.R.B., the N.Z.R.U. and the latter’s partner, Air New Zealand, who have committed early support to any plans of taking the All Blacks to Samoa.
In his email he confirmed the enthusiasm of N.Z.R.U. to play in Samoa but that there were a number of considerations they have to work through including the time, commercial feasibility and the team’s preparations for the Rugby World Cup that same year.
An attempt to get a comment from Prime Minister and Chairman of the S.R.U. Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi was unsuccessful yesterday at an event the Samoa Observer covered.
He was rushing to another event after delivering the keynote address at the launch of the First Samoan Full Gospel Pentecostal Church seminar held in Vaitele.
