The event started yesterday with kilikiti contest with the Chairman of the Church’s Sports Committee Keith McCarthy saying it was a good opportunity for all the local and international youths of the congregation to meet each other.

“The main conference will kick off next week on Monday with a parade,” he said.

“The official opening of the conference will be held this Sunday and also the celebrating of the Golden Jubilee of the Methodist Church.”

However, he said during this week it is mainly for the youths to compete against each other.

"So it is for all Methodist Synods to be playing against each other and having fun," said Mr. McCarthy.

One of the members from the New Zealand Synod, who did not want to reveal his name, told the Samoa Observer that this big celebration is a chance for him to enjoy his first time in Samoa.

“I have been waiting for this for so long and I can’t believe that I made it,” he said.

“This is a dream come true for me and I have met so many good people and being able to witness the 50th Jubilee is such a blessing.”

He said that there are a lot more people who will be coming this week.

“It will be an unforgettable event in years to come and I am so excited to witness this celebration.”

The sporting event will wrap up on Friday, concluding with a prize giving ceremony.
