A 33-year-old policeman from Falelauniu and Foaluga Savai’i has been charged with possession of marijuana.
According to Acting Police Commissioner, Fauono Talalelei Tapu, the policeman who cannot yet be named was caught at Malololelei while under the influence of the drug.
“He was charged on that same day and was remanded in custody on the 21st of February until the 3rd of March for his court hearing.”
Fauono said that this case ensures that no one is seen as above the law.
“It doesn’t matter whether it is a policeman or any one from the government - once they break the law, they will be charged just like everybody else who has broken the law.
“The Ministry will not give any chance to any police officer, who took an oath, who breaks the law under any circumstances especially for possession of drugs.

“This policeman took an oath in front of family, the country and especially in front of God that he will be honest, but instead he broke the law and his promise.
“This also tells us that this man is not qualified to be a police officer.”
He said the arrest should serve as a warning to serving officers.
“This is also a wakeup call for all police officers, that whoever does these kinds of things, they will go to court, and as long as I’m Commissioner I will make sure that all police officers stay honest in their work and walk the talk,” says Fauono.
According to Fauono the charged police officer was from one of the new recruitment wings from September 27th last year. It is not yet a year since he became a police officer.
