Inspector Tole’afoa Keti was demoted following a Police Tribunal where he was charged with three other police officers.

The officers were accused of locking up the three three-year-old with his father inside a Police cell. The Tribunal found all the officers guilty.

Tole’afoa was then demoted to the ranking of a Sergeant and is currently with General Policing.

Several attempts to get a comment from him were unsuccessful. He is on leave.

But the Assistant Police Commissioner, Fauono Talalelei Tapu, said the appeal would be heard in the District Court.

While the decision to demote Tole’afoa came from the Police Tribunal, Fauono said “appeals are then referred to the Court for the reason that any another decision might be unjust.”

A date for the appeal to be heard in Court is yet to be scheduled.

The family of the three year old boy had expressed concerns about the treatment of the boy and have yet to confirm if they are proceeding with legal action against the Police.

Meanwhile, lawyer Leulua’iali’i Olinda Woodroffe, who has offered to represent the boy, said she wants an apology from an official to the boy and compensation put aside as a trust for him in the future.
