STYLISH: Team 3E’s.Yazaki EDS Samoa will be even better next year as staff took the time to examine the company’s quality control on Friday.

BEST DRESSED: Team Challengers. At their annual End of Year Quality Control Circle (Q.C.C.) Presentation 2014, 10 teams battled it out not only to better the business but for the chance to win $1,000 in prize money.

And for the third year running, Yazaki General Manager, Funefeai Oliva Vaai said team P1 Draft claimed the top spot.

Joint second place takers were teams Qader and Arrow Circle with the Lone Ranger taking out 4th place and the Challenges rounding out the top spots, coming in 5th. The Challengers also won best dressed. Funefeai said the day was about getting the staff involved.

“Instead of management running things, we get the staff involved thorough a bottom up approach,” he said. “Through these presentations we hope to encourage people to be involved in work, as a moral boosting activity.

“This is also a great time to bring everybody together before the holidays.”

He said this year saw more team participate than ever before. “Usually we have between four to six teams involved,” said Funefeai.

“But this years participation has been overwhelming.

“The staff rehearsed their presentations – for about 15 hours each - during working hours and this is the result.”

As part of the competition, each of the Q.C.C.s had to address a problem Yazaki had faced over the past year.

“For example,” Funefeai said. “The problem is that our water bill is too high.

“So the team will take that problem and actively look at ways to fix it.

EQUIPPED FOR SPORT: Team H2O for Life.“Perhaps through water conservation methods or monitoring staff usage.

“While this is only an example, today the staff are presenting on real problems that are affecting our operations here in Samoa, and through the course of their presentation will offer up solutions.”

First place receives $1000 (for the team), second place, $800, third place $600, fourth place $500, fifth place $400 and the rest $300 per team, he said.
