Christmas is a time of giving.
This was the spirit in Apia yesterday as Samoa is gearing up for Christmas tomorrow.
In all corners of the city, parents were seen with their children buying gifts, families enjoying each other’s company at restaurants and friends shopping together.
A father of two from the village of Lefaga who did not want to state his name said Christmas is a time of "giving and forgiving.”
“That is the reason of the season,” he said.
“It is time for families to get together, celebrate and forgive each other, but (also) give thanks together to the Lord for all that He had done throughout this year."
“It is the time for parents to forgive their children for anything that might have made them not happy throughout the year."
“Especially it is that time of the year that we show our loved ones how we are blessed to have them around us."
“That is what Christmas means to me.” A mother of four, Julie Sagato, said this holiday season is a special time to spend with families. “It is a time to actually sit down and give thanks to our Heavenly Father for all the blessings and for his guidance throughout this year,” she said.
“Christmas is not just about buying presents but it is the time of forgiving and spending quality time with family.
“For me and my family we will be spending time with the children’s grandparents. We already bought some gifts and the greatest gift of all for this festive season is love."
“Wishing Samoa a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year and be safe.”
