Muliaga Jean MalifaGreetings to you all, Talofa Samoa, It is once again that time of the year when, as the publisher of your newspaper, I feel honoured to be in a position to wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

Today, it is also my privilege and pleasure to say thank you Samoa for your unwavering support, for the patience and understanding that you’ve been showing consistently over the years, which most sincerely had been both encouraging and inspiring.

I want to reassure you once again that without this support of yours in a number of ways, your newspaper would have been unable perform its duty of keeping Samoa adequately informed, to which all of us who are helping to produce it have committed ourselves.

The Head of State,
His Highness Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi;
Member of the Council of Deputies,
Tuimaleali’ifano Va’aletoa Eti;
Church Leaders;
Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi;
Members of Cabinet;
Honourable Speaker of Parliament,
La’auli Leuatea Polata’ivao,
Members of Parliament;
Honourable Chief Justice,
Patu Tiava’asu’e Falefatu Sapolu;
President of the Land and Titles Court,
Tagaloa D. Kerslake;
Justices of the Court;
Members of the Diplomatic Corps;
Heads of Government Departments;
Leaders of the Business Community;
Leaders of Village Communities,
All the people of Samoa,

To be sure the road behind us is littered with what remained of last year’s challenges that with your support, we were able to overcome as we were forging ahead in our quest to do what we could, to ensure that Samoa would remain free and peaceful for everyone to continue to be proud of as one’s home.

So let’s repeat this partnership for the year up ahead.

Meantime, let’s not be naïve to think that perhaps this time challenges will not reproduce themselves because they will, and trust me, the moment we quibble they may well emerge ten-fold.

Still let’s not despair. As we reminded this time last year with the tough challenges of the year before, we put our trust in the Spirit of Christmas so that we remained strong as we kept on with the job of making our small, vulnerable country peaceful and safe for everyone all the way up to today.

And so tomorrow, once again we celebrate the Spirit of Christmas.

It is when we put aside our tools of trade, our prejudices and our differences, and we gather around with our families and friends to give thanks to Almighty God for His loving guidance throughout the year.

We do this knowing that even without our asking He is extending His blessing to us all, so that we have nothing to fear as we’re embarking on our journey, into the new year beginning just ahead.

And so today, as we’re once again celebrating the Spirit of Christmas that touches us all through Jesus Christ’s teachings of humility embodied in the act of turning the other cheek, about giving comfort to those who are in sickness and in illheath, and about giving strength and hope to the poor and the needy among us, we are gratified.

Indeed, we are comfortable that with the ultimate sacrifice Jesus Christ had made in atonement of man’s wrongs, the unbreakable bond that is continuing to hold the Christian world together up to this day as a result, will remain.

Let us put our differences aside then and let us work together to build our country up, so that we can be in a position to help those among us who are in need of our helping hand, and feel good inside for having achieved that meaningful task.

Let us trust in the Spirit of Christmas to help us achieve the goals we have set for ourselves for the year 2015. Have a Merry Christmas Samoa.
