Despite the drastic change of weather these past days; Samoa will not be experiencing any severe weather such as tropical cyclones.
This assurance came in after several Samoans expressed their fear of an incoming cyclone.
Accordingly the onslaught of Cyclone Evan was preceded by a weather pattern similar to what is being experienced by Samoa in the past days.
Speaking to the Samoa Observer yesterday, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Meteorology Division Assistant Chief Executive Officer Mulipola Ausetalia Titimaea confidently assures the public that in the next couple of weeks “we are not expecting any severe weather such as tropical cyclones”.
However in the meantime there is a potential for a tropical cyclone to be developed close to New Caledonia and it is forecasted to move towards Australia, “so it’s from us at the moment” Mulipola said.
Mulipola also claimed that the drastic change of weather for the past three days is the normal pattern at this time of the year, “We are in the wet season now”.
This is a similar pattern until probably towards the weekend.
On Monday, the country experienced very hot weather while on Tuesday there was heavy rainfall for about 30 minutes, there were drizzles during the rest of the day and yesterday, the country again experienced warm weather.
The A.C.E.O. also credits the changing weather to a situation Samoa is in now where “there is a trough line which aligns from East- West of Samoa into the Northwest- Southeast and it’s also a reach of high pressure which is moving bringing in some fine weather”.
“The trough is not really an enhanced trough.”
Mulipola also gave out warning since the change of weather poise some health risk in terms of Bronchitis, vector borne disease and water borne disease.
He also said that the heavy rains could cause destruction to the roads especially on the highlands.
