NOT CLEARLY INFORMED: Suspended constable Leulua’iali’i Ma’anaima Patu.Suspended constable Leulua’iali’i Ma’anaima Patu is still in the dark about his fate following his suspension from the Ministry of Police and Prisons early this month.

When he first spoke out about his unexpected suspension he claimed he was not clearly informed about the reasons behind the Ministry’s decision.

According to him When Acting Police Commissioner Leiataua Fata Aviga Salale handed him his suspension letters dated 12 December, he was not given the opportunity to make an inquiry Leulua’iali’i was told he was suspended until the investigation was completed. It was also effective on the day the letters were dated.

But Leuluaiali’i has spoken out again.

This time he is alleging that another Assistant Police Commissioner Nafoi Misa Talaimanu Keti is behind his suspension.

He claims that the Assistant Police Commissioner is in a relationship with the woman who laid the complaint against him.

Nafoi when asked to respond to the allegation by Leulua’iali’i said “no comment”.

When sought for comment, Leiataua claimed that the constable was given the opportunity to respond to the suspension He also confirmed that this was involving an incident that occurred on Wednesday 10 December at Vailima Breweries.

The incident stemmed from a Police investigation that involved Leulua’iali’i.

They approached the company at Vaitele to look for a suspect that had stoned a house at Vaivase.

Upon arrival at the company they asked the receptionist for the suspect giving her his name. When he approached they walked out of the main office.

That was when the woman who laid the complaint against the constable showed up and questioned the officer’s presence there.

She then instructed the suspect to return inside. This caused Leuluaiali’i some concern and so he wanted to make sure that things were cleared up.

He was later told that this woman under the company’s Policy should have been the first to be approached in order for them to speak with the suspect.

The policy is that when Police come to the office looking for any staff Police is required to speak with this woman first.

As it turned out Leulua’iali’i eventually approached her and informed her he was unaware of his policy. If he was aware of it she would have been the first person to be approached.

An argument materialised and eventually he informed the woman she could be charged with obstruction.

“If my duties were not conducted correctly and any decision I made this means the officer in charge does not understand the law,” said the constable.

He is also alleging that Nafoi lacks any real understanding of the law saying that he is the Assistant Commissioner of their division; hence, he should be standing in to protect him.

Leulua’iali’i believes that the officer in charge should be the one to answer to the allegations of the complaint against him.

Instead “you have pushed this on me”. “I accept this corrupt action and injustice that you have done to me and may you know this ‘the truth is strong but what is untrue is not strong’”.
