Tuilaepa said the team has a history of making “excuses” when they lose.

Speaking to the media this week, the Chairman of the Samoa Rugby Union said such excuses are not new to his ears.

“There are two good things about our line up,” said Tuilaepa.

“They are tall and have beards.

I guess it’s a good thing that with that they would be faster and will no longer have any more excuses (if they lose).”

According to Tuilaepa, the poor performance in Dubai and South African last year was because of food poisoning.

But that is not all, said the Chairman.

“Another time the boys could barely move and said they had too much training,” he said. “Our team is rich with problems like that.

There always has to be something.”

Tuilaepa said the first time for the team was when they blamed the referees.

“During that time, we were not able to watch the games,” he said.

“But now we can easily see it (on TV) when some of them are trying so hard to catch their breath during the game.”

The Prime Minister added that he has asked the players to ensure they are cleared of the chikungunya virus before they leave.

“Just in case they leave and later blame chikungunya if they lose,” he said. “But they must remember that the virus exists in Tonga and Fiji as well.”

The team is leaving for New Zealand today.
