Thursday was a day to remember at the Children’s Ward of the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital at Moto’otua.
It was when the management and staff of Samoa Stationery and Books made their first donation of Books and other materials to the Paediatric Ward Library at the hospital, in what will now be an annual project for them.
“SSAB believes in giving back to the community when and where they can, and this is just another example of this desire to help,” a statement from the company said.
On Saturday 13th December and Wednesday 24th December 2014 during SSAB’s 2nd Birthday Promotion, SSAB held a FUN Day for kids where they offered fun activities for kids from Jumping castles, face painting, as well as taking photos with Santa Claus at a cost of only $2.00, and all the money collected from these FUN days were earmarked for the Paediatric Library Project.
The donation which includes over 300 good quality second hand books, new books, bookshelves, educational toys, stuffed toys, table and chairs, as well as a carpet for the children to sit on, are but just a few of the things they provided for the hospital that will now give the children not only something to do, but also encourage them to read which will help them in their education.
Part of the donation was in the form of gifts given to the children in the Paediatric Ward.
SSAB would also like to acknowledge Vui Tonumaivao Alex Francis Brunt and Tricia Brunt of UPF Freight Australia and the Lithgow Family in Melbourne (Peter and Juliet Lithgow) for collecting a lot of second hand books in Australia and shipping them to Samoa to assist with the kids in Samoa’s reading.
