The visitors were passengers of the Marina Cruise ship which docked at the Matutu wharf for a day.

The local agency for tours and logistics was Samoa Scenic, which had every planned and prepared for the visitors when they arrived.

At the wharf, local businesses were keen to showcase their products and handicrafts to the visitors, offering them souvenirs from Samoa.

Away from the wharf, the passengers were very excited to be exposed to aspects of the Samoan culture showcased at the Samoa Tourism Authority’s Cultural Village.

Retirees, Bill and Mil from California, were among the passengers.

“It’s the best day trip we’ve been on,” said Bill. “Our hosts have been wonderful we are so lucky to come to Samoa and experience what you have to offer.

“Me and my wife hope to come back again and stay for two weeks. Just from this little time, we love the food, the hospitality is fantastic and we want to experience that more.”

John and Lilian from Canada used the opportunity to walk around Apia.

“We wanted to see the Cathedral and I must say it is awesome,” Lilian said. “We also took photos of the Aggie Grey’s construction and we hope that will open soon because we’ve read so much about its history.

“We’ve taken many photos and we’ve bought some souvenirs so we’ve had a fantastic time.

Another first-time visitor, Tim, from the United States of America, was extremely excited.

“I thought it was going to be really hot but the rain has actually helped,” he said. “I’m looking forward to coming back and spending a long time here. I’ve enjoyed the experience.”

The cruise ship yesterday is Samoa Scenic’s third ship in as many weeks. Several more are lined up for the year.
