Their oath was witnessed by colleagues, friends and relatives. His Honour Patu had a message for the newcomers to the Samoan bar.
“The legal profession is supposed to be an honouree profession, which is concerned with administration of justice and upholding the rule of law,” he said.
“If the legal profession is to command the respect and confidence of the public it is supposed to serve, then its members should adhere to the highest ethical standards.
“Remember that respect and confidence of others in you is not something to be demanded. It is something to be earned.”
Mr. Viliamu, who hails from Fusi, Sale’imoa, Sa’anapu and Aleisa graduated from the U.S.P.’s Law School at Vanuatu, last year.
The son of E.F.K.S. Reverend Elekosi and wife Lila Viliamu, he is working at the Legislative Assembly. Another new lawyer to the bar is Reverend Tofiga Tusiane.
A Minister of the Methodist Church, he said being accepted to the bar gives him an opportunity to use his legal knowledge to support and assist his congregation, the people of the church and Samoa.
