Viliamu Afatia says it will be a dream to be able to make the team to play the All Blacks at Apia Park.

And so far so good. Afatia has already made the 27-man squad announced last week.

Should he be selected in the playing 23 to be announced tomorrow, he will be one proud man.

The Vaiala boy, who has lived in Agen, France, for five years, started his career with the High performance Unit, U18s then he went onto the U20s, before he made it to Manu Samoa.

His stint at Agen is his first overseas contract.

In France, he lives with his wife Luisa and son, Joshua.

Afatia said being away from his family at Vaiala was not easy at first.

“You find that it’s the prayers that really bridge that gap,” he said.

Asked about his secret to success, the Manu Samoa prop says that honesty and humility is the key to anyone’s success in rugby.

“Be honest, know how to humble yourself, commit to training and listen to the coach, your superiors.”

Away from the hype about the All Blacks, Afatia said he is happy to be back in Samoa.

In between breaks from Manu Samoa’s rigorous training schedule of the past two weeks, Afatia has been using the time to catch up with his parents, Toese and Fuafiva.

He is the third of seven children.

He attributes his success to his faith.

“Faith has made things possible.”
