Meg Dyos will join Laura Penhaul, Emma Mitchell and Natalia Cohen when they say goodbye to Samoa. The quartet started from San Francisco, U.S.A. to Hawaii, to Samoa and now their destination is Australia Known as the Coxless Crew, the journey to Cairns is expected to take between 60 to 65 days. The journey covers 8,446 miles.

The fifth rower, Lizanne van Vuuren, left the country yesterday.

They are the first fours team to row the Pacific Ocean. Through this venture, they aim to raise 250,000 British Pounds and awareness for their two charities, ‘Walking with the Wounded’ and ‘Breast Cancer Care’.

Half of the funds raised will go towards younger women who have breast cancer.

And as for Walk with the Wounded, the funds are for women injured at war and who are the unsung heroes. Three of the team members were found on the Doris yesterday, preparing for their trip. They were full of praises for the friendliness, the warmth and the giving nature of the Samoan people.

Ms. Cohen told the Samoa Observer that Samoa was the destination she was looking forward to the most.

“We couldn’t have hoped for a better experience here to be honest. We’ve all had an opportunity to relax and recover which has been great as we didn’t have much of an opportunity in Hawaii to do that. We’ve all managed to see a small part of the island and the welcome and the people of Samoa have just been incredible.” They were pampered at Roseberg Clinic, went paddling in the outrigger canoe and swimming at the To Sua, spent a night at the Sinalei Resort and sailed on the Gaualofa.

Ms. Cohen even got to do the siva.

“I think to be honest the general highlight has actually been the people. It’s been really, really special. I don’t think any of us want to leave,” she said laughing. “There’s so much incredible sights to see in Samoa.”

However, the Coxless Crew is ready to leave. “Although there are a lot of ups and downs and challenges along the way, it really has been an incredible special experience.

Being at one with nature and getting to understand the ocean has been a huge learning curve for a lot of us and a lot of life’s lessons as well. We have had the best.

We absolutely loved it.” Prior to their arrival in Samoa, the Coxless Crew spent almost 100 days at sea, rowing from San Francisco to Hawaii, where they stopped for a break, then onto Samoa. “The vision is to inspire others to reach their potential, push through their boundaries and meet and overcome the challenges that life throws at them,” said a press statement.

The patron of the Coxley Crew is super star, Kylie Minogue, whom they have met has helped spread the word about their journey, which has led more people to getting involved.

The singer and actress has beaten breast cancer herself. The Crew thanked the Samoa Voyaging Society, Riverside BnB, Hyundai, Sinalei Resort and others for making this possible. They were grateful to Nicola Mills, her husband Rory Condon and the staff of Digicel Samoa Ltd as the main instigators of the Samoan experience.
