The owner of the gate crashed into last Saturday by a van said that this is not the first accident.
“This is the third that this kind of accident happened, I am very disappointed,” said Papali’i Poloa Passi.
“The security that was on duty last night said that the van hit the gates really bad, and when it stopped they ran away without anyone knowing who they really are,” Arriving at the scene last Saturday morning, Papali’i was there with his wife still waiting for a comment from police that they contacted relating to the accident, to find out who was the owner of the crashed vehicle.
Papali’i said that the security that was on duty told him that it happened after midnight early Saturday morning.
An earlier accident happened last month when a taxi crashed into the same gate.
While Samoa Observer was talking with Papali’i, the owner of the crashed van arrived. Romeo Lafoia said that his car was stolen from where he parked it at Faleata Golf Compound at about half past twelve last Saturday morning.
Asked whether he contacted the police he said ‘yes’.
“I reported this to the police at half past twelve last night’
He said that he left his key inside the car and didn’t lock it.
“I always do that because and I didn’t worry about someone stealing my car.”
Police officer Lemalu Upumoni of Faleata Police Station told the Sunday Samoan that he was not aware of any call about the stolen van.
“I am not sure about the other police stations but us, no we haven’t....it was just a call from someone to come down here to investigate the accident.”
Mr. Lafoia said that he had received a call from a police officer who told him that his car had been in an accident.
“The policeman said that they found a diary in the car where I had written my phone number and that was how they knew my number and called me.” Mr. Lafoia explained.
A supervisor at Faleata Golf Course, Mrs Avarua Wong, also questioned her staff on duty on Friday night whether they knew someone that stole the van.
“There were two nightwatchmen that were on duty last Friday night but they were not security at the front gate but working here in the clubhouse.” she said.
It is not known how many people stole the van.
