A power blackout has been blamed for the interruption to internet services yesterday, with the outage causing problems for both Bluesky Samoa and Computer Services Limited (C.S.L.) customers.
As a result it left many people with either a very slow internet connection or no access to the web at all.
An attempt to obtain comment from the Electric Power Corporation before press time was unsuccessful.
Bluesky’s Marketing and Sponsorship Coordinator, Veronica Parker, confirmed that the telco’s internet service was interrupted as a result of the outage.
She said, at the time of the phone interview, that “it’s been approximately three hours” since the situation occurred and that she had been on air with the local radio stations addressing the issue.
“From then on it has caused a short to our system and we are trying to restore it,” said Mrs. Parker.
She said the outage has caused the company a critical power systems fault.
“There is progressive restoration and repairs underway,” she said.
“However, services are operating at minimal or reduced capability while major systems are restored.
“We can’t do much at this point, but technicians are working around the clock to restore the system and hopefully by 6pm (last night) it will be working.”
She said Bluesky regrets this inconvenience and apologises to all its customers for this unplanned event.
When the E.P.C.’s after hours line was contacted, the people who answered the phone advised the Weekend Observer to call their officers stationed at the powerhouse where the outage occurred.
However, the number was busy at the time.
A call was also placed to the C.S.L. was also unsuccessful as its number too was busy.
