This was confirmed by the President of Itu o Tane Rugby Union, Reverend Silupe Su’a Siaki, who said Sato’alepai successfully retained the Itu o Tane shield after nine consecutive weeks.
“There were ten teams in the tournament,” he said.
“It was very tough but I am very pleased with the development of the sport at the Itu o Tane.
“Our goal is to continue to develop the rugby players, finding ways to help the players improve their skills.”
Speaking about Sato’alepai’s success, Rev. Silupe, who is also the Sato’alepa’i’s EFKS shepherd, said it hasn't been easy.
“I know it was not that easy but working together has made it all possible. I am very happy with the level of rugby within village.”
Rev. Silupe said sports helps to develop relationships among players.
“I see huge potential from the players within our Union. Many of them have natural talents, good skills and the ability to go far.”
So what does he see in the future?
“We will continue with our tournaments,” he said. “We want the players from Savai’i especially our Union to take that next step in representing our country and I know that if we continue to work hard, we will eventually get there.”
