The Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O) of Digicel, Pepe Fiaialetoa Fruean, has admitted that 2014 has been one of the “toughest years” for the company.
Pepe was speaking the National University of Samoa (N.U.S) Fale Samoa on Friday evening where the company celebrated 2014 with their clients, business partners and relatives.
“With the S.I.D.S Conference being the biggest event ever to hit Samoa – it made 2014 one of the toughest years not only for us but for the whole country,” Pepe said.
He congratulated the government, private sector and every Samoan for making S.I.D.S a success and “we thank you for taking us with you on your way up”.
“Tonight is undoubtedly the most important event of the year for us – because without you, we would not have achieved the level of success we enjoy today,” said Pepe.
“Without you, we would not have been motivated to push our limits to find solutions to meet the needs of your businesses - and drive growth in this industry and the economy as a whole.”
There is a saying that goes “With great power comes great responsibility” – and I’d like to bring your attention to an area of which we all share responsibility for, and that is, our community.
“We all have social and corporate responsibilities to our communities and our people,” he said.
“This is particularly an area that Digicel considers very important and one that I hold very close to my heart – investment and support towards the development of the communities we live in.
“As you may all know, Digicel has sponsored and supported many charitable causes and programmes that improve the lives of our people through improved education, sports development, youth development, access to medical healthcare, entrepreneurship and other socioeconomic projects that benefit the wider community.
“This is the most rewarding part of being at Digicel – being able to give back to our people and help those in need.”
He then urged the guests, “if there was a single message I’d like to impress upon you all tonight…or leave as a challenge for you all - it would be for everyone to join us and become involved in our community service projects.”
The colour theme of the event was the company’s signature red so guests rocked up dressed in their finest red. Spot prizes were offered to the best red dress, best fun table among other categories.
