New Manu Samoa Officers appointed

Faleomavaega Vincent Fepuleai and Namulauulu Alama Ieremia.With the resignation of Fred Amoa as the Chief Executive Officer of the Samoa Rugby Union and Tuala Mathew Vaea as General Manager of the High Performance Unit (H.P.U.), Namulauulu Alama Ieremia, the current Technical Assistant to the Manu Samoa 15’s coaching team, has been appointed as the Interim General Manager of the H.P.U.

The appointment was made during S.R.U.’s Special Board Meeting this week. In that meeting the Board of S.R.U. also recorded its appreciation of the services of Fred Amoa and Tuala Mathew Vaea.

In a press statement, the board said “the latest resignations in the key management and technical positions of the SRU have created a major management challenge in the face of the urgent preparations for the historical Manu Samoa games against the All Blacks, Barbarians and the 2015 Rugby World Cup pool games, which are all to be played within the next 8 months.

“Therefore the SRU Board have opted to put in place immediate interim appointments whilst appropriate preparations are made to advertise extensively the recruitment of the positions of CEO and GM of the HPU.

“The SRU board has approved the appointment of Faleomavaega Vincent Fepuleai, who has extensive experience in business management, marketing and sports management as the SRU Interim CEO.

Faleomavaega is also envisaged to assist the Oversight Reforms Manager in the implementation of the institutional and financial reforms being rolled out by the SRU with support from World Rugby.

“Namulauulu Alama Ieremia, the current Technical Assistant to the Manu Samoa 15s coaching team has been appointed as the Interim General Manager of the HPU.

“He brings to the interim position extensive coaching and skills management experience not only in Samoa but also from New Zealand and Japan where he has had at least 8 years of coaching elite teams from Super Rugby through to International teams.

“The SRU Board has also tasked the Oversight Reforms Manager, SRU Treasurer, and Chairman of the Sponsorship Committee, Tamaleta Taimang Jensen as the coordinator of the interim management team.

“Tamaleta, with a post graduate degree in commerce will draw on the wealth of experience he has acquired in corporate finance, banking, management and rugby coaching in leading the interim management team.

“The Board has also recruited its new Financial Controller who had commenced work last year in October Mr. Yona Tielu. Tielu graduated from Auckland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Business in Accounting he is a former student of Robert Louis Stevenson's School. He has also had vast experience in the accounting field as he had work as an Auditor with the Audit Firm of Lesa ma Penn.”

The statement says:

Tamaleta, Faleomavaega and Namulauulu are all former elite rugby players who have represented the Manu Samoa and are all passionate about development of Samoan rugby.

Namulauulu has the distinction as one of the few double internationals having represented the Manu Samoa and the All Blacks.”

The statement said: “Tamaleta Taimang Jensen was educated at Marist Brothers Mulivai, St Joseph’s College, Samoa College.

He= graduated with a business degree in Economics/ MBS from Massey University Palmerston North New Zealand.

“He had worked in the Ministry of Finance, Samoa Telecommunications, ANZ Bank and Samoa Commercial Bank.

He is married with four children.”

Faleomavaega Vincent Fepuleai started his education at Marist Brothers Mulivai, Chanel College Moamoa, before he moved to New Zealand to further his education in 1982-1983. He is at present the Finance Manager and Managing Director for the Global Travel and Golf Hut Ltd. A current Board Member for Samoa Life Assurance Corporation (SLAC) and a former Board Member for Samoa National Provident Fund in Apia. His experiences and skills includes working in management positions in the private sector.

“He was a former Manu Samoa player in 1988-1991, involved heavily in organizing the Samoa Open Golf Tournament in 2006-2014, and as chairman of the organizing committee of the successful Opera under the Stars 2013-2014.

He is married with 5 children. Namulauulu Alama Ieremia was educated at Malifa Primary School, Leifiifi Intermediate School, Samoa College, with a Bachelor's Degree in Geography from Victoria University, New Zealand. He is at present the Technical Adviser for Manu Samoa, previously an Assistant Coach for the Hurricanes super rugby team and Wellington Lions, Technical Adviser for the Japanese Rugby Football Union. He was also Head Coach for Academy, Development and Colts teams Coach for Wellington Rugby Football Union.

He is married to Michelle Ieremia with 3 children.

Yona Tielu:- Bachelor of Business in Accounting and Finance from Auckland University of Technology.

A current member of the Samoa Institute of Accountants.

He is not married.
