A bus driver has been warned he will have his license suspended if he is caught again with illegal nuts on his tyres.
The Land and Transport Authority (L.T.A) issued the warning after staff caught him driving with the sharp cone-shaped nuts on his front tyres.
In an email, L.T.A. Chief Executive Officer, Leasi Vainalepa Galuvao, said the Authority sent out a team to bring the bus in following concerns raised by a member of the community.
“The bus has been brought in and all nut covers have been removed,” he said.
“He [bus driver] has been warned that any repeat will result in the suspension of his bus license.”
Leasi said the L.T.A. had to make sure that the nuts were in fact steel cone heads whether or not they posed a danger to other vehicles and pedestrians.
He said some people reported that they were actually soft foil aluminum caps used only for decoration.
“These nuts were not on the bus when it was brought in for inspection and registration,” he said.
“However, following inspection the driver was warned and the nuts removed, “he said.
